Practical English (ESL)
AFI College uses the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) to determine your English level. There are six levels, ranging from A1 to C2 that correspond with Beginning through Cambridge CAE levels.
Short-term ESL
Our Short-Term ESL course is ideal for visitors who are in the United States for a short period of time. This course maintains the integrated general English curriculum of our standard ESL course; this course satisfies U.S. immigration requirements by consisting of 22 lessons, or 17.5 hours per week.
Our English Plus Fun program consists of a combination of our Intensive English Program with fun afternoon activities organized by AFI. Morning classes focus on speaking, reading, vocabulary, grammar, and writing, and afternoon activities center around favorite student destinations in Los Angeles, such as Hollywood, the Grove, Third Street Promenade, and Venice Beach.
AFI College of Los Angeles has 23 years of experience in teaching English to students from all over the world. In our English course for the mature learner (50+ English) you can enjoy the beauty of California and American culture while improving your English and making new friends.
Our English for Professionals course is more than just a Business English course. After an interview with the admissions advisor, your course is customized to give you the greatest benefit for your professional background.
Our English for Communication course was developed especially for speakers of other languages who need additional communication practice in English as a second language. An integral part of our Intensive English Program, this English for Communication module consists of additional practice in speaking and listening and can be added to any of the other English programs by F -1 students, or as a stand-alone course by local learners who are not constrained by a full course load requirement.
The AFI TOEFL Test Preparation Program is an advanced and intensive 12-week course designed and updated to keep pace with the TOEFL iBT Test. Using the latest written and audio material, and with full individual access to our computers, AFI’s trained TOEFL instructors train you in every aspect of the TOEFL test.
The AFI IELTS Preparation Course is specifically designed for students who need to prove their English language skills to educational institutions, employers, professional registration or government immigration agencies.
Our Cambridge English: First (FCE) preparation course is a high-intermediate intensive 11-week course designed to help students develop the skills needed in order to pass the official exam.
Our Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) is offered in 11 week sessions at the advanced level; this course is designed to help students develop the skills needed in order to pass the official exam.
